Bombardier has won a £1bn contract for work on the Crossrail project, the government has announced.

The company will provide 65 trains for the project, which is set to open in 2018, serving London and south-east England.

Francis Paonessa, the company's UK president, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the deal would secure some 800 jobs in manufacturing and create further posts building and staffing a new depot.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 6 February.
