Finnish company 'makes Sochi snow'

Mikko Martikainen, chief executive of Snow Secure, has told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that his company has provided "approximately 1.5 million cubic metres" of snow for the Sochi Winter Olympics, underway in Russia.

He explained that in addition to traditional snow-making techniques and hardening the natural snowfall, the previous year's snow was also stored in the mountains "as a back-up" plan.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 7 February.
