Sir David Higgins: 'HS2 could transform the North'

HS2 Chairman Sir David Higgins has said the high-speed rail link has the potential to transform the North, "not just individual cities, but the region as a whole".

He gave a news conference following the publication of his report for government called HS2 Plus in which he called for building work on the northern section of the £50bn project to be accelerated.

A properly coordinated HS2 could improve journey times "across the Liverpool-Hull corridor", he continued, enabling businesses in the South to escape "pressure cooker property prices in London".
