Smartphone banking transactions 'double' in past year

The number of transactions made through banks' smartphone apps has "doubled" in the last year, the British Bankers Association has said.

Its chief executive Anthony Browne told the Today programme that 5.7 million transactions are being done on mobiles each day, with consumers checking their bank balance, paying bills and taking out loans through their apps.
