UK Chancellor George Osborne has said the government "makes no apologies for fighting for national, economic interests" over the Pfizer's attempt to take over AstraZeneca.

It comes as the former chief executive of AstraZeneca attacked the attempted takeover, saying he feared Pfizer would act like a "praying mantis".
