Interest rates 'will rise before end of 2014'

UK interest rates are likely to rise from their current, "unsustainable" level of 0.5% by the end of 2014, former Monetary Police Committee Andrew Sentance has said.

He told the Today programme that the Bank of England had made a "mistake" last summer in creating the impression that interest rates would remain at such historically low levels through 2015 and 2016.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 23 June.
