Clegg 'confident' north of England will see transport overhaul

Nick Clegg has told the BBC he is "very confident" that a significant number of projects designed to improve the north of England's economy will be realised in George Osborne's Autumn Statement in December.

The deputy prime minister is pushing for investment in rail and road links in the north of England, describing them as "decrepit", though such changes are not currently government policy.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on November 6 2014.
