'Massive' spending cuts to come, warns Institute for Fiscal Studies

The Institute for Fiscal Studies has said the plans set out by George Osborne in his Autumn Statement will result in ''massive cuts in public services''.

The chancellor has insisted that the impact of the reductions have been exaggerated.

But Paul Johnson, director of the IFS, which is independent of the government, said he saw a ''colossal'' change in the amount of projected spending per head in the next few years.
