Wages rise faster than inflation and record number in work
Wages are rising faster than inflation, they are now beating price increases by more than they have for 5 years. Regular pay was up 1.6 % in the year to October.
The latest official figures also showed 63,000 fewer people were unemployed, and a record number of people are in work.
The BBC's Andy Verity reports from the north-west of England, where jobs are now being created faster than in most of the UK.
