New HGV braking could save lives with quicker stops
One in ten vehicles on British motorways is a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) yet they are involved in half of all fatal accidents.
So anything that helps a lorry stop more quickly will be life-saving.
Cambridge University has got together with a number of companies, including Volvo, to work on a new braking system that chops a fifth off the stopping distance of an HGV.
It could be on the roads in just a few years.
