Should young drivers have 'restricted licences'

Road safety campaigners say the risks faced by newly qualified young drivers could be reduced dramatically if a new system of restricted licences were to be introduced.

One in five youngsters will have an accident within six months of passing their test.

In many countries after passing, they are initially prevented from driving at night, drinking any alcohol, or crucially carrying their friends as passengers.
