India's favourite instant noodle brand under scrutiny

It is India's best-loved brand of instant noodles, but now Nestle's Maggi is in hot water.

Authorities in several states are testing samples of the product for higher-than-allowed levels of lead and the taste-enhancing chemical monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Nestle have issued a statement saying their products are monitored for lead as part of their "stringent quality control processes" and that tests have "consistently shown lead levels to be within permissible limits".

They added: "We do not add MSG to our Maggi Noodles sold in India and this is stated on the concerned product."
