Paul Smith: No-one cares how good you used to be
Sir Paul Smith, the legendary designer, has been a force in the world of fashion and business for 40 years. He began his career after his dreams of becoming a professional racing cyclist were shattered by a serious accident.
He opened his first clothing shop in 1970. Now the Paul Smith brand operates in 66 countries with 300 stores worldwide.
A big advantage of still being a private firm is that you don't have "shareholders breathing down your neck the whole time", he says. He talked to the BBC's Victoria Fritz at the Chelsea Flower Show about how his designs are often inspired by flowers and plants.
