China pushes its own Asian trade deal

US politicians now seem set to refuse to ratify the Trans-Pacific Partnership - a giant trade deal brokered by the United States with 11 other countries in Asia and North America.

This opens the door for China to push its own trade treaty - the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership - with countries in East Asia and the Americas. President Xi Jinping will be trying to do just that at this week's Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Peru.
