NUT says free schools are 'not wanted' by parents

Free Schools in England are not wanted and will not work, according to the biggest teaching union, the NUT.

The first 25 schools are scheduled to open from September and will be run by charities, businesses, teachers or parents.

The NUT says only a quarter of parents questioned were in favour of setting one up, but the government argues they will raise standards.
