NUT resistance to education cuts a 'duty'

NUT general secretary Christine Blower has told delegates it is vital they continue to protest against the government's planned education spending cuts.

Her speech comes a day after 15-year-old Joe Cotton made a passionate defence of the educational maintenance allowance (EMA), saying that without it thousands of students would not be able to go to college.

Speaking on the final day of the NUT conference, Ms Blower said, "the attacks we face... go to the heart of the education service", and that resistance to the cuts is a "duty".
