Ofqual: GCSE results showed 'greater variation' than expected
The head of school examinations in England asked one exam board to alter the marks necessary for a grade C in GCSE English, because the grading was too "generous".
Appearing before the Education Select Committee, Ofqual chief executive, Glenys Stacey, said results showed an "a greater variation between schools than expected".
School heads say thousands of pupils missed out on an all-important grade C due to the alterations, but Ofqual say they acted to maintain standards.
