A-level results: 'More will get their first choice'

Hundreds of thousands of students are finding out their A-level results, with a new system in place that means universities in England are allowed to admit a greater number of top-performing pupils.

Last year universities were allowed to take in extra students who had the grades of at least AAB or the equivalent, but this year that pool of students has been increased to include anyone achieving ABB or better.

Speaking to the BBC, Universities Minister David Willetts said the university system had been "opened up" and that more pupils than ever would get to go to their first choice university.
