More people urged to become school governors

More people should consider becoming school governors to fill the 30,000 vacancies across England, a charity has said.

According to Governors for Schools, a quarter of school governor positions are vacant in some deprived and rural areas.

Governors for Schools chief executive Liz McSheehy insisted that anyone could get involved - not just parents.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast, Ms McSheehy said: "We all have a vested interest in trying to make our schools better."
