Poor white children 'are lowest performing ethnic group'

Poor white British children are the lowest performing ethnic group in our school system, according to the chairman of the Education Select Committee.

Graham Stuart told the BBC that interventions such as the pupil premium were working, but he said: "The most important single thing that can happen is to get children from poor families in the classroom of great teachers."

"There is an issue around parental attitudes... we know white British children are more likely to miss school, we know that they report doing homework on fewer evenings a week than other ethnic groups," he added.
