Election results: Lib Dem Simon Hughes loses to Labour

Liberal Democrat Simon Hughes' 32-year Commons career came to an end on Friday morning, when he lost his Bermondsey and Old Southwark seat to Labour.

Speaking after the announcement of the poll result, he said his party had tried to ''change the lives forever, of hundreds of thousands of people here''.
