Royal Academy Summer Exhibition highlights unknown artists

The Royal Academy of Arts' Summer Exhibition in London gives unknown artists the chance of having their work hung next to more established names.

Now in its 243rd year, it is the largest open contemporary art exhibition in the world and features paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture.

Among the works on display are a print of a dead piranha in fancy dress, a picture of King's Cross station and a photograph of the Queen's hands.

BBC News met some of the members of the public whose work has been chosen for this year's show.
