Timelapse footage shows the building of the extension to Tate Modern

The Tate Modern gallery in London is to open a major new extension to coincide with the Olympics Games in the city next year.

Former underground oil tanks will be converted into a striking exhibition space which will be used to host installations, performances and films.

But further galleries due to be built on top have been delayed until 2016, due to lack of funds.

Timelapse photography shows some of the work done on the site of the extension so far.
