New Hall inquiry would 'delay' the truth, says Patten

The Chairman of the BBC Trust says a new inquiry into Stuart Hall's activities at the corporation would "delay" the truth.

Speaking to Jeremy Vine on the Andrew Marr Show, Lord Patten said an existing inquiry headed by Dame Janet Smith would look at the allegations against Stuart Hall.

Lord Patten also added that extra resources would be put into Dame Janet Smith's inquiry if needed, saying: "If we need to more, we will".

He added that he believed the BBC would be liable for compensation from Stuart Hall's victims.
