The real spy 'who inspired Bond girl'

There will be a ceremony at a cemetery in north west London today to celebrate the life of a woman who, it's claimed, inspired Ian Fleming to create the spy Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale.

She was called Krystyna Skarbek although she was also known as Christine Glanville.

Clare Mulley has written about her life in her book The Spy who Loved: The secrets and lives of one of Britain's wartime heroines.

Speaking to the Today programme's Sarah Montague Ms Mulley explained that "she took the first opportunity she could to fight for the allies and her country."

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 10 May 2013.
