Should 'missing' Banksy work be sold?

A work by the street artist Banksy, which disappeared from a north London wall earlier this year, is set to be auctioned in the city on 2 June.

There was another attempt to auction the work, known as Slave Labour, after it reappeared in Miami, but the sale was cancelled after protests from Haringey Council.

They say it belongs to the local community and should be put back where it was originally painted, on the side of discount store Poundland in Wood Green.

Inkie, a graffiti artist, told the today programme's Sarah Montague: "You don't own something that you do illegally like this."

However, Mary McCarthy, director of MM Contemporary Arts which specialises in managing, buying and valuing urban contemporary art, disagreed.

"This work was produced on the street for everyone to appreciate," she said.
