Noel Coward's Private Lives opens in the West End

Following its run at Chichester Festival Theatre last year, a new production of Noel Coward's 1930 comedy Private Lives has transferred to the West End.

It stars Anna Chancellor and Toby Stephens as glamorous, rich, reckless divorcees, Amanda and Elyot, whose love is unexpectedly rekindled when they take adjoining suites while honeymooning with their new partners.

Director Jonathan Kent tells BBC Arts correspondent Tim Masters how the couple's amorous on-stage antics shocked moral guardians at the time.

Private Lives is at the Gielgud Theatre, London, until 21 September.
