Jeremy Deller opens exhibition in William Morris museum

When Turner prize winner Jeremy Deller took his English Magic exhibition to Venice Biennale, a giant mural of the 19th century textile designer William Morris dominated the British Pavilion.

Now, for the first time, a little bit of Venice is coming to the UK as the art fund has sponsored a three stop tour of Deller's 2013 entry to the Italian art extravaganza.

First stop is Walthamstow, specifically the childhood home of William Morris, which houses a museum dedicated to the great man's work.

Famed for his textile design and his association with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Morris was also a committed socialist who wrote articles and gave lectures about the cause.

His work has long influenced Deller, who said The William Morris Museum was the obvious place to start the exhibition's tour.

English Magic will travel to Bristol and Margate once the current exhibition in Walthamstow closes on March 30.
