Modern dramas 'reinvent' traditional formula

Modern dramas such as Line of Duty "reinvent" the tried-and-tested formula of the search for an unknown killer, BBC Drama controller Ben Stephenson has said.

Mr Stephenson told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the themes of police corruption and community in such dramas are becoming just as important as the "whodunnit" element.

Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall also hailed the rise of the "novelistic" drama series, which sees storylines unfold across several episodes and presents those working on the shows with an "exciting" opportunity.
