Marion Cotillard speaks about her character in The Immigrant

The Immigrant, starring Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix, continues to open in cinemas around the world bringing filmgoers a picture of the American immigrant experience in 1920s New York.

The film is hardly a warm or optimistic story, but some critics see it as an authentic tale that begins on Ellis Island, an immigration station that was the point of entry for millions into the US.
