Game not over: Tetris turns 30
One of the world's most popular and enduring video games, Tetris, celebrates its 30th anniversary this week.
Developed in Russia, the game's simple - if addictive - premise requires players to move falling, irregular shaped blocks together to form complete rows.
It is a world away from the advanced graphics and complex narratives of many contemporary games but it is still available, and still hugely popular on mobile phones and other devices.
Newsnight's David Grossman looks back at the game's history and tries to fit together the reasons for its enduring appeal.
