Streaming inclusion 'keeps singles chart relevant'
The inclusion of streaming figures in the official UK singles chart from July will help to retain its relevancy, alt-J band member Gus Unger-Hamilton has said.
Music streaming doubled in popularity in the UK between 2013 and 2014, from 100 million to 200 million streams a week, through services such as Spotify and Deezer.
Former Radio 1 DJ Mark Goodier praised the move, but added that the UK was "late to the party" given that countries such as Germany and Holland had already adopted the changes.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 23 June.
