New York auction house's record art sale

The New York auction house Christie's says it set a new art sale record on Wednesday when it sold over $850m (£539m) of contemporary and post-war art.

The sale included works by Francis Bacon, Cy Twombly and Ed Ruscha but the two iconic works by Andy Warhol fetched the highest prices.

Following a bidding war, Triple Elvis (Ferus Type) sold for $81.9m (£51.9), and Four Marlons went for just a little under $70m (£44.3m)

Brett Gorvy, Christie's international head of post-war and contemporary art said he thought prices have remained high because of the stability in the art market.
