Judith Kerr: 'Art lifts my loneliness'

Author and illustrator Judith Kerr achieved international fame with children's books like Mog and The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Now 92, she spoke to BBC 6 Music about her inspirations and how vital drawing has become in her old age.

"My husband died some years ago and really the only thing that helps about being alone is that you can work 24 hours a day, if you want to," she told Mary Anne Hobbs.

"If I'm not drawing I get rather irritable and a bit sad."

The interview is part of Hobbs' "Art Is Everwhere" season, which takes place this weekend. Over two days, listeners will be asked to create a piece of art in response to the music, speech and sounds on her weekend breakfast show.
