Berry Gordy: 'Motown was a fairytale'

The founder of Motown, Berry Gordy, who built the careers of singers like Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye, has written a musical about his life called Motown, which opens in London tonight.

He told BBC arts correspondent Rebecca Jones the success of his music had been "a fairy tale".

The 86-year-old said he had faced racial prejudice as he aimed for the top of the charts, but that his main goal was "to do something in my life that would make my parents cry with happiness".
