Mohamed Diab on film-making challenge in Egypt

The film Eshtebak (Clash) is about co-existence and is against hysteria and division, the director Mohamed Diab has told BBC HARDtalk's Stephen Sackur.

"We are in the midst of a big division in Egyptian society - almost amounts to civil war," said Mr Diab, explaining that the first rule of any family gathering was "don't talk about politics".

He said: "Everyone is seeing the other as the enemy, dehumanise the other, this is the first step in civil war and I'm trying to dissolve that.

"I'm trying to make a film that counters that and in order to do that I have to humanise everyone and that's what provokes people the most - humanise the other," he added.
