Trevor Noah on growing up under apartheid
South African comedian, Trevor Noah, has told BBC Hardtalk’s Zeinab Badawi about growing up in apartheid-era South Africa as the son of a black mother and white father.
Mr Noah explained how his parents insulated him from many of the aspects of apartheid.
“My parents were in a world where they were the ones who faced the ills,” he said, adding that it was "a struggle I didn't even know I was a part of".
"We very seldom went out together because that would cause commotion,” said Mr Noah.
“My parents were always trying to obscure the fact that they were a couple and as much as the country on the face of the laws was changing, anyone who knows about apartheid tells you that what the government said to the international community was not what was happening on the streets,” he said.
