'Early treatment would prevent strokes and save money'

Hundreds of people who have minor strokes are missing out on potentially life saving surgery.

The Royal College of Surgeons says operations which can reduce the risk of a full stroke are being delayed - putting lives at risk.

It says fewer preventative operations are done in the UK than anywhere else in the developed world.

Professor Ross Naylor, of Leicester Royal Infirmary, told the BBC that early treatment would prevent many strokes from happening, and save the NHS money in the long term.
