David Cameron defends NHS overhaul plans

Prime Minister David Cameron has warned that the NHS is ''unaffordable'' without change and that modernisation is essential.

Mr Cameron was defending the government's plans for a major overhaul of the health service in England.

Union leaders have condemned any move to give GPs control of most of the budget and introduce greater competition between NHS hospitals and the private sector.

MPs are due to have their first vote on the plans. The BBC's Nick Robinson reports.
