'Dementia doesn't come overnight'

Hans de Jager is the carer for his wife Liza who suffers from dementia. He feels that had there been screening in place when she was 75, then by catching the condition early, he would have been more prepared.

The Alzheimer's Society says that the NHS should offer the checks, as many people suffering with the condition are missing out on the care and support that they need.

The UK National Screening Committee, which advises the NHS, has said tests and treatments need to improve first.
