Nurses' leader calls for proper healthcare assistants training

The NHS is too reliant on untrained healthcare assistants who are asked to pick up nursing skills as they go along, says Dr Peter Carter, the Royal College of Nursing's chief executive.

He said healthcare assistants are employed to help nurses with basic tasks like washing and feeding but end up doing much more.
