Lansley: 'Doctors' pension scheme is generous'

The first industrial action by doctors for almost 40 years is under way, as medics boycott non-urgent care in a dispute over pensions.

Under the plans, doctors will be asked to work for longer - until 68 - and contribute more of their pay.

However Health Secretary Andrew Lansley insists that the doctors' pension scheme is very generous "in comparison with others in the public sector and even more so with those in the private sector".
