Cancer patient 'to tweet own death'

Kate Granger was told two years ago that she only had a few months to live, after she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

The 31-year-old doctor specialises in palliative care so already knew more about death than most people.

Since her diagnosis she has written two books and has her own blog. She even plans to tweet about her own death (her Twitter user name is @GrangerKate, external) in order to help change the public's attitude to it.

Speaking to the Today programme, she said: "Tweeting from my death bed would help to open up that dialogue within society.

"I live my life with a positive attitude. I have a very dark sense of humour about what's happening to me."

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 15 May 2013.
