Patients 'deserve' to see surgeon data

From today, thousands of consultants in England will have information about their performance published online, as part of new league tables designed to improve transparency within the NHS.

It will include the number of patient deaths, repeat operations and whether a surgeon's results are within a safe range.

The Medical Director for the NHS in England, Sir Bruce Keogh, told the BBC that it is important that the NHS is transparent.
