Burnham: Government must 'get a grip' on A&E

The shadow Health Secretary, Andy Burnham, says he's not surprised by a BBC survey of NHS accident and emergency departments in England, which has found evidence of staff shortages.

Just over a hundred hospitals responded to a freedom of information request that revealed A&E departments were suffering from a shortfall in staff numbers by 10% on average.

NHS leaders are also warning that emergency departments could reach breaking point this winter unless pressures on the service are addressed.

Andy Burnham says changes need to be made.
