'We need 4,600 midwives' - Royal College of Midwives

Thousands more midwives are needed in England, the Director of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) says.

Jacque Gerrard told BBC Breakfast that the National Audit Office's (NAO) suggested 2,300 shortfall was half of what the RCM estimates is required.

The comments follow a report by the NAO which found that the NHS spends nearly £700 on clinical negligence cover for every live birth in England.
