'More midwife support needed for patients in labour'

More midwives are required to offer more support to patients, a new mother has said.

Amanda McDonald described being left in a ward with sleeping patients, while having contractions, for hours.

However, she praised the overall care she received from the midwives, despite them being "rushed off their feet".

A report by the NAO has highlighted a shortfall in midwives in England, calling for a further 2,300 to be recruited.
