Charging migrants will cost more, GP warns

Doctors leaders have warned that charging migrants for hospital care could cost more than it would save.

GP and nurse consultations will remain free but there will be fees for emergency care.

Health ministers insist the changes would allow the NHS to recoup money, and encourage only those who need urgent care to attend.

Dr Rob Barnett, who sits on the GPs committee of the British Medical Association, told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "There's a great concern that this is going to increase the bureaucracy."
