Musical hallucinations 'have no permanent cure'

Musical hallucinations, the experience of hearing music when none is being played, have been the subject of a study by Dr Sukhbinder Kumar, a research fellow at Newcastle University.

Dr Kumar told the Today programme's Justin Webb that the experience is "so vivid" that sufferers at first believe the music to come from an outside source rather than in their head.

He added that there is currently no "permanent cure".

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 27 January 2014.
