Eyesight threat: fighting trachoma in Ethiopia

Every year more than a million people worldwide go blind because of the eye condition trachoma.

Trachoma is caused by the chlamydia bacteria, and is spread from person to person by flies, and on towels and facecloths. If untreated, the eyelids become chronically inflamed, and this in turn can eventually lead to blindness.

Ethiopia has one of the highest rates of trachoma in the world. Angela Robson reports from the Oromia region, where nearly half the children have the disease.
